4th Street Avenue under path in tucson
This is a project I worked on for 13 years and was involved in many aspects of the overall design and material choices, general structure design, interior pre selection, hand-railing, lighting, metal safety mesh but my main focus was to keep it user friendly.
Designed the south east quadrant which houses a multi-level fountain that provides a multi-sensory experience for the pedestrians as well as vehicular traffic. There is very litle standing water, but lots of falling water that allows people to interact as a cooling tower. Other sections are playfoul by the touch.
Without provocation , it has become a type of etch as sketch. people have used the grate structure and the rocks that the water falls into to draw pictures and speak their mind. By inserting rocks in the grate, a new piece of art is created everyday. The piece is fully integrated into the walkways, retainer wall structures, and raised planting beds.
